We grabbed a flight from Bangkok down to George Town, the capital of the Malaysian island of Penang.

George Town was, from its founding by Francis LIght in 1786, a large and important trading center along the Strait of Malacca. It soon became a colony of Britain.

It is still today a large and important city with skyscrapers and all the other trappings of a modern city. But the old small center remains relatively untouched. And it's been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2008.
