I've always been charmed by these lugubrious billboards. You will find them in every town and village in Italy - but in no other country I've ever traveled to. They are devoted solely to death announcements - recent deaths, anniversaries of deaths, thank you messages from the families of the deceased along with tributes from friends and co-workers. They are printed and posted by local funeral homes. Here are a couple of examples: Our family thanks all those who have been a part of the grief in the loss of dear Osvaldo.
