There seems to be a significant exodus from the historic center of Spoleto. I've noticed a lot more For Sale and For Rent signs around.

Could this be because the town center has been given over to sightseers? Many of the shops that used to sell meat, bread, vegetables and the staples of life have closed and been replaced by shops catering to tourist wants. The irony is - there just aren't that many tourists. And now many residents are forced to go to the outlying strip-malls for essentials.

And in an otherwise laudable effort to reduce traffic in town they've closed roads to outsiders and set up parking fees higher than New York City - making the town center a less appealing destination.
