Meet Varanus Salvator Macromaculatus otherwise known as a "Bangkok Dragon".

Lumphini is the name of a large park in downtown Bangkok and is home to many of these "dragons". The locals are quite used to them and pay them little heed, but tourists (such as myself) find them fascinating.

They can get quite large - over 8 feet (2.5 meters) in length - but are unagressive and relatively harmless.
