Man's best friend, or lunch? This is the kind of question you end up asking yourself as you venture through the markets of Vietnam. Dogs are both pets and food - I assume, either one or the other.

Yesterday we bought ½ dozen duck eggs. We were thinking - 'omelette'. But we found this surprise - another delicacy called hôt vit lôn. A Vietnamese friend told us it's delicious, nutritious and easy to digest. I, for one, am happy to take her word for it. I'll be wriggling out of any proffered dishes of field mice, bats or lizards as well. Ya gotta draw the line somewhere.
