Looking like a sky full of hot air balloons, these colorful silk lanterns are made and sold in Hoi An. Hang a few up in your house and you'll feel like you've already got a party in progress.

This is one of many Chinese influences in Hoi An that date back to the big port-city days of centuries ago. But as the river silted up, the nearby city of DaNang took over as the major port in central Vietnam.

Hoi An now survives on the tourist trade - hundreds of thousands of people every year, and the number is growing rapidly.
