Everyday, five times a day, the minarets all over town sound off with the azzan, or Call to Prayer. Long gone are the days when a muezzin would climb to the top and call out with unaided voice. It's all electronic now.

Being devoutly unreligious I have adapted these calls to fit my own lifestyle. There is first the pre-dawn wake-up call which I dutifully sleep through. This is followed in time by the call to lunch, the call to tea, the call to cocktails, and lastly, the call to dinner.

Muezzins are not all of equal talent, which leads me to believe that they held auditions at this, the Blue Mosque. In fact, we learned there are four muezzins here.
