Turkish Fast Food - Kumpir

The man at the kumpir stand reaches into an oven and pulls out a large, hot, baked potato. He slices it open and smushes it around. Then he slathers on butter and cheese, salt and pepper. Then he asks you what you want on it!

There are about a dozen choices of toppings - peas, corn, chopped pickles, chopped olives, russian salad, hot dogs, beets, mayo, ketchup ... and more. For 7 YTL ($5), on a chilly April Sunday in Istanbul, it's an in-kumpir-able lunch.
