Cádiz is a placid spit of land jutting out into the Atlantic on the SW coast of Spain. One of its claims to fame is that it was the embarkation site for Columbus's 2nd voyage in 1493 with 17 ships and 1200 men. His mission was to establish a permanent settlement in the New World. The rest, as they say, is history.
