Land grabbing is an ongoing problem in Myanmar. If a copper mine needs to expand - land is taken from the nearby peasant farmers. If a beach resort needs to be built - coconut groves are destroyed and the owners displaced.

Army leaders and their cronies are responsible for this as they rake in the profits. And as land values continue to soar, especially around the larger cities, you can be sure there'll be more of it.

I took this picture outside a government building in downtown Yangon where people claiming to have had their land stolen from them have set up a kind of refugee camp.
