WATER FOR HUMAN USE The rainy season in Oaxaca runs from May through November. The rest of the year it's dry. These trucks get their water from deep wells and make the rounds selling it. The water system in houses is complicated. Water is pumped from the truck into a tank in the basement. There's another pump that brings that water to a tank on the roof. Then there's another pump which pressurizes the whole system. A breakdown anywhere along the way and you're out of water. Although the truck says "uso humano" - that doesn't mean it's potable. Drinking water you get from another vendor who for about $1 will deliver a 20 liter plastic bottle to your door. |
