Small puddle-jumping airlines have not as yet taken off in Mexico and there's very little train travel other than freight. Anyone who travels here knows that the best and often only way to get around is by bus.

ADO (Autobuses de Oriente) started in 1939 when roads were even worse than they are today. ADO covers the whole country and will get you from city to city for a reasonable price.

We rode overnight from Campeche to Veracruz - an 11 hour trip covering 900 km that cost about $72 USD. If you have trouble sleeping on planes you can forget about getting any shuteye on this baby. The coaches are state-of-the-art Volvos - but the roads ... !
