Udawalawa National Park in southern Sri Lanka is home to hundreds of elephants. They also run an elephant "orphanage" which takes care of young ones until they are ready to be released into the wild. After observing these amazing creatures for a while you begin to see that each one has his or her own personality. We rode around in a jeep for a few hours and caught sight of about a dozen of them roaming freely throughout the 300 sq km park. They don't seem to mind being gawked at by visitors. Maybe they're just too busy looking for and eating the 200 kilos of food they need daily!
