Once the penjors are finished they are erected along the streets outside the households or shops of the people that have created them. And they stay there for over a month. You see these beautiful constructions along the roads everywhere in Bali giving towns a very festive air.

From what I can gather, the aim of all of this is to give thanks and show devotion to the mountain god. I've also read they make it easier for the returning ancestors to find their way back to their former abodes.
