Cow of the Month

Miss December has a leg up on every other cow in India. With nothing awry she would already be sacrosanct, but with a fifth appendage jutting uselessly out of her neck she is in another class. And it doesn't end there. She was born on Krishna's birthday - Krishna, who himself is portrayed with many auxiliary limbs. She is the Holiest of Holy Cows.

Her owner, a sadhu, takes full advantage of her status. He pulls her along behind his itinerant temple and cashes in on Miss December's leg show. It cost me 10 rupees (25¢) to take this picture. But then, I get all the blessings that she brings with her.
