Udaipur is justly famous for many things, among them, the Lake Palace, built by Maharaja Jagat Singh II in 1754. It floats like a jewel in the water. It's now a hotel and restaurant. You can't visit unless you have a reservation, which unfortunately we couldn't get.

Udaipur's latest claim to fame is that a few scenes from the James Bond film Octopussy were shot here - and every night at about 7 o'clock you can hear the strains of the 007 theme song blaring from rooftop restaurants and hotels all throughout the tourist section of town as they all begin showing the film ... yet again.
