FOR EXAMPLE: The famed Blue Footed Booby. (sula nebouxil) This bird is native to the Pacific coast of the Americas from California to Peru. More than half the population live on the Galapagos Islands but we spotted this one on Isla de la Plata.

The name booby comes from the Spanish bobo and means foolish or clown-like - and you have to admit those feet do make him look a bit silly.

They're fairly big birds with a wing span of about 1½ meters. And they're not at all afraid of humans. I walked right up and took this pix without him even lifting one of those big blue feet.
