In the season of Akhet, when the Nile flooded, the statues of the god Amun, along with that of his wife Mut and son Khonsu, were loaded onto a special boat at Karnak and brought about 3 km upstream to the Temple of Luxor. Priests and nobles took the boat as well. But this 3 km long road, which was at one time completely lined with sphynxes, was for the commoners.
